When To Book

When should I get an electrical safety inspection?

Protecting your home and family is a top priority. Here are some situations where it's crucial to check your electrics meet current safety standards.

Buying or Selling

An inspection is typically required for a property to qualify for full insurance. We detect existing and potential hazards, allowing issues to be addressed promptly.

Having Electrical Issues

Frequent power outages, electrical shocks or other concerning issues mean it's time for an inspection to identify and fix the risk.

Before Renovation Works

Before starting a renovation, it's essential to check your electrical system is safe and capable of handling new circuits.

After an Earthquake

After a serious earthquake or natural disaster, we assess your property for damage and carry out any necessary repairs.

What We Look At

What an electrical safety inspection typically covers

The switchboard and its protective devices
Sockets, switches and light fittings
Visible wiring and its condition
Earthing arrangements
Signs of heat damage, wear or unsafe modifications
Anything that does not look right for how your home is now used

The exact scope depends on your property. An inspection reports on the current condition of your electrics. It is not the same as a Certificate of Compliance, which is issued after fixed wiring work to show it was done safely and tested.

FAQs

Common questions

How much does an electrical safety inspection cost in Dunedin?

Prices start at $250 + GST. Get in touch with some details about your property and we will confirm the cost for your inspection.

What do I get after the inspection?

A detailed written report as a PDF, organised room by room and with photos, so you can see exactly what we found and where. We are happy to talk through anything in the report, and to quote for repairs if you would like us to.

When should I get an electrical safety inspection?

Common reasons are buying or selling a property, having electrical problems, planning a renovation, or after a serious earthquake or natural disaster. WorkSafe also suggests getting a licensed electrician or inspector to check an installation before you buy a home.

Is an inspection the same as a Certificate of Compliance?

No. A safety inspection reports on the current condition of your electrics. A Certificate of Compliance is issued after fixed wiring work to show it was done safely and tested. Keep both with your home records.

Can you fix any problems the inspection finds?

Yes. On request we will provide a quote for any repairs, and we can often complete the work while you remain in your home.

Does an older home mean unsafe wiring?

No. Age alone does not make a home unsafe. Condition, maintenance and how the home is used matter far more, which is exactly what an inspection looks at.
